Trying to understand kids is like trying to figure out "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?" *insert cheesy quartet*. Just when you think you've figured them out, they are off doing something else weird! Sometimes it's not even the odd behaviors that stress us out, and it's the behaviors we can't explain. They may display a change in mood, sleep, appetite, academic or social functioning. Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all model to raising children. Deciding to seek counsel makes you a proactive and an amazingly supportive parent! Kids go through a world of changes and usually, we just want to see them come out on the other side of those changes victorious. We love our kids, and we always see them as angels, even if that comes with a bent halo from time to time *smile*. I'm not saying I am going to heal your kid or that your kid will magically transform into Timmy from Lassie or Lisa from The Simpsons (ok...that's a cartoon), no....Laura Winslow, better yet Stephanie Tanner from Full House (Geeze girls are difficult)! The point I am trying to make is, your kid won't all of a sudden start eating Brussel sprouts and advocating for World Peace after therapy. What I can offer is the support your child needs to express themselves and learn problem-solving skills to deal with issues such as school stress, depression, anxiety, bullying, peer pressure, parental divorce, family or personal illness, grief, trauma, and other various life stressors kids face.
